At a weird intersection of U.S. and international history (maybe?)

I hope one day I can look at this fanfic and and my blog notes and ponder, "Wow, this was a snapshot of a weird intersection of U.S., British and international politics and history. Glad things got better since then."

I hope my reaction isn't, "Oh, dear 2018-2019 me... Things got much, much stranger, including [redacted for time travel temporal-conservation purposes, but assuredly very alarming events]".
